Watlington is a market town within the scenic Chiltern Hills. Watlington is also known as England’s smallest town and encompasses the traditional market town ambience. The town has an extensive history, dating as far back as the 6th century, with mentions in the infamous Domesday book. The town consists of beautiful Georgian architecture, along with buildings from the 16th and 17 century.
Due to its location within the Chiltern Hills, a popular attraction is a stroll around Watlington Hill. The incredible scenery expands for miles, with endless dimension and nature. Due to the extensive amount of greenery, butterflies thrive here. Making it a much loved spot for the community to have a picnic and admire them.
However, an unmissable day out would be a visit to Stonor Park. In which the magnificent 12th century house lies. Stoner Park continues to be a home for the family for 850 years and each extensively historic room is open for admiration. Favourites include the marvellous 17th century library, extravagant revival hall and the gallery that opens up to the much loved gardens. The beautifully kept park and gardens offer many walks and picnic opportunities. The Chequers also frequently holds fantastic quiz nights, live music and other special events.
